is the collection of Philip Pappas, one of the most prestigious and comprehensive in Sicily, the protagonist of the exhibition entitled "Art is where, notwithstanding, laughing. The collection of Philip and Anna Pia Pappalardo (works 1950 to 2011) "hosted by the extraordinary eighteenth-century frame of the former Benedictine monastery in Catania.
over eighty works of art - different techniques in oil on canvas, watercolor on paper, photography, installation - are exposed 4 to 30 April 2011 and are the result of careful selection, made by the curator Daniela wide, of over 800 works in the collection consists Pappalardo.
For the first time, a party representative summary of the collection can be enjoyed from the city.
The initiative is promoted by the Faculty of Humanities University of Catania, in collaboration with the Libraries Riunite "Civic and U. Recovery and Omphalos Architecture, which is responsible for the logistical organization of the exhibition, under the patronage of the Culture of the City of Catania and the Foundation Puglisi Cosentino.
The show's title, seemingly bizarre, builds on work by Joseph Beuys, in a sort of ironic metadiscourse art, try to reflect on the role and tasks of the artist in the contemporary world, work which also is part of the collection of Sicilian collector.
The works on display illustrate some of the major art movements of the twentieth century to reach the most contemporary trends. Many artists in the exhibition: Abramovic, Alviani, Baj, Beecroft, Burri, Capogrossi, César, Chia, Christo, Cucchi, De Chirico, Fautrier, Fontana, Guttuso, Kounellis, LeWitt, Manzù, Mathieu, Paladino, Rotella, Schnabel, Vasarely , Widow, to name just a small part.
Among the works of major importance and interest include: Surface CP/200 Giuseppe Capogrossi, 1953, one of the cornerstones of the collection, Cellotex Burri in 1980 on which explodes the coloring of black and red, a Mimmo Untitled Paladino of 1992 admirably expresses the mystery man in the past and present Archimedes and the rare Broadway Jannis. Among contemporaries, other important appearances: Vanessa Beecroft, VB36.267.VB present, with a photograph of Marina Abramovic Balkan Baroc II performance of the Venice Biennale 1997, and a beautiful work of George Baselitz 2005, entitled Knight.
Filippo Pappalardo's encounter with art goes back to childhood and becomes, over time, an essential factor conditioning: "The relationship with my work is continuous and essential - says the collector - and accompany me I am the custodian rather than owner.

Catania has collected art following a historical logic - the collection tells fully the path that art, and painting in particular, has followed in the last sixty years - Autobiographical and, as each piece is inextricably linked to his life - and to his land - and, as he himself says, "pages of the same book, one verse of poetry."
and a collector "emotional" to Filippo Pappalardo, which sees the arts not to be locked in the vault but to bring it to life around him. All pieces in the collection are in fact exposed, grouped by themes or movements, in three different locations each day spent living Pappalardo. It is in this spirit of enjoyment of art for himself and others that the exposure is part of Catania which is the generous response to an invitation by the University Advanced of Catania.

Amedeo Vergani (Grass, October 29, 1944 - Merone, 1 May 2010) began to collaborate with the newspaper La Provincia di Como since still in high school classic.
