On January 24, 1955 opens at the Museum of Modern Art in New York the exhibition "The Family of Man", one of the epochal events in the history of photography.
Curated by Edward Steichen, the exhibition presents five hundred and three photographs of two hundred seventy-three photographers. The preparation work was long and complex and at the end of his tour, the exhibition was visited by more than nine million people in over forty countries.
The exhibition marked the triumph of photography and trust on the effectiveness of its ability to document and communication.
